Green Tea
What is Green Tea?
Green Tea is an herb that is derived entirely from the leaves of Camellia sinensis. Green Tea is consumed throughout the world, but known frequently as an Asian tea as that is where Green Tea took off in popularity. Green Tea contains carotenoids, vitamin C (ascorbic acid), tocopherols, and many minerals like chromium and zinc. Green Tea is an unfermented tea that has been known for its antioxidant properties and as a metabolism booster. Green Tea is often accompanied with diets to increase metabolism in hopes of losing more fat.
How Does Green Tea Work?
Since Green Tea enhances metabolism, Green Tea is best used as a long term aid in weight loss. Many people complain when losing weight that they aren’t losing enough weight or that they aren’t getting the body they want. Green Tea may be part of a solution in this problem. When many people diet by starving their bodies of calories, or food, their bodies will start to use lean muscle as a primary source of getting energy to burn. Green Tea has been shown help boost metabolism which helps the body in exercising to burn fat rather than burning muscle. Preserving muscle, oftentimes, is just as important in weight loss as losing fat.
Is Green Tea Effective?
There are many studies available that show Green Tea to be a positive part to a healthy diet. There are many claims made about Green Tea, but many still have to be tested further. But, Green Tea has been shown to decrease fat mass and body weight at the same time boosting metabolism. Green Tea may help reduce cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health, and many other benefits which, again, still have to be tested further. Research done by the University of Maryland Medical Center has shown that those who consume Green Tea in their diet have lowered their overall “bad” cholesterol.
Is Green Tea Safe?
Green Tea is safe for most people. There are small minority of people that should consult with their health care provider before making Green Tea a daily part of their diet. Those who have high blood pressure, heart problems, anxiety, or anemia are discouraged from taking Green Tea because of how Green Tea may stimulate these areas in a negative way. For the most part, Green Tea is extremely safe for the vast majority of the population.
Green Tea Conclusion
Green Tea seems to have some very beneficial outcome when combined with diet and especially exercise. Green Tea shouldn’t be the only part of one’s diet, but as Green Tea is combined with diet and exercise Green Tea is very effective at aiding a weight loss program. Green Tea will help preserve muscle which is oftentimes the first to go at the start of a diet. In the end, Green Tea leaves your body fat to burn for energy—exactly what many are looking to do.
