What is African Mango?

African mango, known also as bush mango, wild mango, or of course by its scientific name – Irvingia gabonensis – is used in the diet world for the extract of its seeds – know n as dika nuts or ogbono.  These are rich in protein and fat but have actually been shown in clinical studies to help regulate body weight as well as to reduce LDL cholesterol/raise HDL cholesterol

The african mango extract that has been isolated is known as IGOB131 and though the exact mechanism of action is still unclear, it may influence critical metabolic pathways including PPAR gamma, leptin, adiponectin, and glycerol-3 phosphate dehydrogenase. Now, that sounds all very technical, but basically what this means is that the extract may –

As this is an ingredient, it is difficult to judge what is a reasonable price for a product containing it because of other ingredients that may be included. It must be noted that this is a product that must be imported from Africa or Southeast Asia typically.

There is still a good deal of research yet to be done on this ingredient, its function and its long-term benefits.  However, from the studies done so far it appears to be one of the healthiest and most promising way to regulate healthy cholesterol levels and reduce body fat with regular use.  Definitely worth checking out products containing it!
